Our Fallen Heroes
"So live your life that the fear of death can never
enter your heart."   -Tecumseh
Annette Garcia, was a Brown Beret and a personal friend of mine.
In 2008 I swore her and her whole family into the Brown Berets.
She was the attentive mother of 6 children, a caring nurse, and a
devoted wife. She had no fear of death because she loved her life,
and her family was her life.

I remember the first day I met her, my best friend happily
introduced her to me. He was so smitten by her and he was so giddy
that he started dancing in the church parking lot. It was only plain
as day that they would one day be together and sure enough a
month later they were married.

For years they were inseparable and when I would visit my best
friend she would treat me like a brother. When her children
decided to join the Brown Berets she was right there with them
being an example of love and dedication, often hosting our
meetings and activities in the family ranch. Never once did she
complain, we were all family and she welcomed all.
Not all marriages are without problems, and on January 21st the police were called in to help
resolve a minor domestic dispute. Never would it have been thought the horrifying event that
would take place. A Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy by the Michael Cramer arrived at their
ranch but Annette was not home. As he was leaving Annette drove up in her van with the
children in it and he waved her to stop across the street. Emotionally upset about the earlier
argument and now the police were at her home she pulled out a small 2 1/2 inch pocket knife and
brandished it from across the street (approximately 40 feet away). He then pulled out his gun and
began shooting at her. He unloaded his weapon shooting all 9 rounds, the last bullet hitting her in
the back as she was trying to get away from this mad man and get to her children who were in
the line of fire.

She was bleeding to death in her husband's arms as the police refused to call in the hospital
helicopter. The ambulance showed up an hour after being called and even still they drove away
slow with no sirens just to make sure she would be dead. Her blood was not yet dried when the
pigs attempted to arrest her husband and oldest children who were witnesses to the murder. It
was all done in an attempt to intimidate the family and cover up the murder as if somehow it was
everybody else's fault.

The Riverside County Sheriffs have earned a horrific reputation of killing people of color. In
January 2008 they murdered another family friend, Joseph Nino Garcia at the Hot Springs
Casino in Downtown Palm Springs. He was unarmed and had his hands up ready to surrender
when they shot him 13 times, even shooting an innocent bystander in the process. In May of
2008, the Sheriffs invaded the Soboba Indian Reservation and killed a 30 year old native Indian
mother named Tamara Angela Hurtado. In total, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department has
been involved in 7 separate gun battles that have killed 5 tribal members of the Soboba Indian
Reservation.

Protests and Candlelight vigils were held for Annette immediately after the murder and many
more will come until justice is served. The Pig was put paid administrative leave for two weeks
while the investigation was underway  The Riverside County DA refused to release any
information about the case for 18 months and he was cleared of all charges and it was claimed as
a justifiable murder. We demand for that pig to be prosecuted and given the death penalty for his
crimes! According to California state law it is First Degree Murder to shoot someone in the back.
If we are judged by that standard, they must be also!
